😆 Today’s Laugh
Today’s laugh comes courtesy of my four-year-old son as we were snuggling on the couch recently:
Me: C, I don’t want you to grow up, because then you won’t want to snuggle me.
C: You mean you want me to stay four?
Me: Yep.
C: Ohhh, but then I’ll never like dinner!
(In related news, he’s now boycotting chicken. Except chicken nuggets, of course. 😂)
💭 Today’s Thought
Today, we dive into the Law of Giving & Receiving, which suggests that the way to get what we most want in life is to first give it to others.
This goes against our natural inclination to identify something we want more of and then search outside of ourselves to find or acquire it.
Think about what you most want in life. What shifts for you if you assume that you already have it?
Furthermore, what would it look like to share it with others?
If you lead a team at work, try applying the same concept to how you approach your leadership…
What do you most want from and for your team? Trust? Accountability? Ownership? What else?
Make a list and pick one thing that you can give more of to them.
Check out this article for more on the Law of Giving & Receiving (including how it applies to wanting specific, material things).
🖊️ Today’s reflection
If you’re new to journaling, I highly encourage you to read Nancy Adler’s article: Want to be an outstanding leader? Keep a journal.
This week, find a quiet place and gift yourself 10 minutes to reflect on any of these prompts (or invent your own!):
Write your own version of Chopra’s law above, with the things that are most important for you to cultivate in your life.
Of the things I want to cultivate in my life, which feel(s) hardest to give? Which feel(s) hardest to receive?
Pick one thing you’d like to give more of to others and journal about how you might practically do that.
