💭 Today’s Thought
I’m trying something a little different today by sharing a quick video intro to today’s thought — let me know what you think!
Try this exercise, courtesy of Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman, and Kaley Warner Klemp in their book The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership:
Look around wherever you are right now. Find every white item in the space and make a mental note of each one.
STOP AND DO THIS BEFORE READING ON. :)
Now, focus on this screen or on a sheet of paper and make a list of all of the green items you saw.
Look around the room and notice what you missed.
You notice what you look for.
Reflect:
What do you look for in yourself? Do you look for signs of growth? Accomplishments? Failure? Mistakes?
What do you look for in your team, partner, kids, or anyone else around you?
Given what you tend to look for, what might you be missing? What value (if any) might there be in seeing more of what you’re missing?
P.S. If you want a sounding board to unpack any of these reflections, hop on my calendar for a free coaching session — you’ll get a great sense of what working together would look and feel like.
📚 Today’s Read
In this article, Jason Wong introduces us to an idea that we might initially feel resistance to: “A First Team mindset is the idea that leaders prioritize supporting their fellow leaders over supporting their direct reports—that they are responsible to their peers more than they are to their individual teams.” Click here for more on how this mindset helped Jason build successful teams and organizations, and how it might help you and your organization.
See you next week!
