💭 Today’s Thought
It’s been 32 weeks since I started this newsletter, but really it feels much longer because of all of the months I spent arguing with myself about whether or not I should do it.
My heart: A newsletter would be a lot of fun.
My brain: But what if no one likes it? That’s scary, I’m not sure I could handle that.
Also my brain: I know the fact that it scares me probably means I should do it…
My brain again: But I don’t haaaaave to do it… And besides, what do I have to say that hasn’t already been said?!
My gut: Just do it — there’s something here for you.
32 weeks in, I’m glad to report that it’s been both fun and scary. The scary never fully goes away, but what’s changed is my ability to be with it — to welcome it, accept it, and then to shift it.
The two things I’m feeling called to express at this moment are:
First, do the scary thing. I’m reminded of what Eleanor Roosevelt said:
You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
I’ve learned even more about myself through this experience, and that growth has worth to me regardless of how this newsletter is perceived.
Second, thank you.
Thank you for choosing to spend a few minutes of your day with me.
Thank you for opening your minds and hearts to my experiences and perspectives.
And thank you for sharing words of encouragement and ideas for how to make this newsletter even better; it is what it is today because of the feedback and reflections that many of my readers have shared.
When I launched the newsletter, I shared this:
I started The New Crop because I’m especially passionate about helping women in leadership feel less alone in their struggles and more confident in who they uniquely are and the power of their own voice.
I hope this has been your experience, and what my brain was incapable of knowing 32 weeks ago was just how much this newsletter would actually do the same for me.

🖊️ Today’s reflection
If you’re new to journaling, I highly encourage you to read Nancy Adler’s article: Want to be an outstanding leader? Keep a journal.
This week, find a quiet place and gift yourself 10 minutes to reflect on any of these prompts (or invent your own!):
At this exact moment in time, what scares you?
At this exact moment in time, what are you grateful for?
📚 Today’s Read
What kind of leader are you? How three action orientations can help you meet the moment.
“Executives who confront new challenges with old formulas often fail. The best leaders tailor their approach, recalibrating their "action orientation" to address the problem at hand, says Ryan Raffaelli. He details three action orientations and how leaders can harness them.” Click here to read more.
See you next week!
