“Could we all actually have a hidden reservoir of creativity just on the other side of our resistance?”
- Gay and Kathyln Hendricks, At the Speed of Life: The Power of Body Intelligence to Create Transformational Magic
What do you find yourself resisting, personally or professionally?
Perhaps it’s a difficult conversation, a career opportunity, a new leadership challenge, or expressing how you really feel about something.
There’s wisdom in that resistance — there’s a part of you that’s trying to keep you safe. Letting go of the resistance starts with accepting that it’s there in the first place.
I’m including some self-coaching questions below that you could use to dig into this a bit more for yourself…
First, spend a few minutes bringing to mind something you tend to resist or avoid. Ask yourself:
What makes that thing difficult to pursue or accept? (Ex: loss of control, fear of rejection, etc.)
What experiences am I trying hard to avoid?
If I were to let go of my resistance, what would I need to accept?
If you allow yourself to imagine the best possible outcome, what might be already waiting for you on the other side of your resistance?

In this article, Marcus Buckingham and Ashley Goodall tell the story of two nurses working the same job but in different hospitals, and with very different experiences and levels of performance. In researching why that is, they uncover the most effective layer for creating engagement — improving the quality of someone’s team experience. Click here for more info on how to do just that.
See you next week!
