💭 Thought: You can’t outsmart life

If you don’t yet have kids, I sincerely promise you they are wonderful. Bed time can just be… a trying experience. 😂
💭 Today’s Thought
Do you know those weeks where nothing seems to be going to plan?
Welp, that’s been my past 2-ish weeks. A snapshot of what’s been going on for me:
School delays due to weather
School closings due to weather
My husband was out of town for work for one week
Our clothes dryer broke
One of our bathroom faucets broke
Our garage door broke, leaving my car stuck inside it
And this week, I’ve had two kids and my husband all home sick for multiple days
Let me first say that I’m incredibly blessed that these are my hardships. And still, balancing life with two working parents, three kids, in a place very far from family is challenging.
It’s weeks like this that remind me that no matter how hard we plan, we can’t outsmart life (I have to keep repeating this to myself for it to really sink in!).
The best we can do is roll with the punches, ruthlessly prioritize the activities that are most important to us, and be OK with either sucking at or asking for help with the other stuff.
Taking your foot off the gas pedal in one area of your life temporarily doesn’t take away from your intrinsic value or worth. You are worthy, even when you’re not firing on all cylinders. You’ve got nothing to prove.
🖊️ Today’s Reflection
If you’re new to journaling, I highly encourage you to read Nancy Adler’s article: Want to be an outstanding leader? Keep a journal.
This week, find a quiet place and gift yourself 10 minutes to reflect on any of these prompts (or invent your own!):
For you, what’s the relationship between your worth/value and achievement?
How can you tell when you’re over-exerting yourself? What do you notice in your body, mind, or spirit?
How do you decide what to keep and what to let go of when things in work or life don’t go as planned?

9 Frameworks for Leading and Managing People
“Employing these models allows you to meet people where they are. By using inquiry and getting curious about what’s happening, managers are better able to see where a person actually ‘is’ before jumping to conclusions and actions based on their own projections. These models will also help name conflicts and behaviors that are showing up on the team so that they can be defused, related to in a new way, and/or addressed in a timely manner.” - Ray Foote Click here to check out the 9 frameworks.
See you next week!
