The New Crop: Issue #82
"safe only gets you so far" + "what do you want to be when you grow up?"
What’s in this issue:
💭 Thought: “Safe only gets you so far”
😆 Today’s Laugh
My son is on top of his Christmas Wish List for Santa already, here it is in all its glory:
I hope Santa can de-code all of this. The only thing I know for sure is that the drawing in the top right is a fart gun. Just what we need. 🤦♀️
💭 Today’s Thought
This past weekend, my husband and I took our kids to see the animated movie “The Wild Robot”.
As an aside: it’s a great movie, with breathtaking animation and beautiful music. Highly recommend!
The lyrics from one of the songs in the movie spoke right to my heart, and a lot of things I’ve personally struggled with over the years (trusting myself, not being afraid to fail, taking an “unfamiliar road”). Sharing in case it helps you, too:
The unfamiliar road could be the same place you get lost and find yourself
There might be bumps, there might be bruises, but at least you'll have a story to tell
Time will slip on by if you're stuck here living life with too much caution
And I know you know that those wings, they weren't made for walking
Oh, it's safe where you are
But safe only gets you so far
What if you look your fears right in the eye
Say you'll see them another time?
What if, for once
You can find the piеce of you that you've been hiding?
What if you chasе your heart out to the edge
Rewrite your stars and be brave instead?
What if you jump
And it finally feels a little like you're flying?
Oh, my darling, if you try
You just might kiss the sky- Maren Morris, “Kiss the Sky”
What road have you been resisting traveling down, and will you dare to try?
🖊️ Today’s Reflection
If you’re new to journaling, I highly encourage you to read Nancy Adler’s article: Want to be an outstanding leader? Keep a journal.
This week, find a quiet place and gift yourself 10 minutes to reflect on any of these prompts (or invent your own!):
What is it to be brave?
What’s a time when you chose to take a risk and jump? How did that moment shape you?
Where in your life are you settling for “safe”?
What’s a piece of you that you keep hidden or try to protect from others?
